A stage is not a backdrop with a sofa in front of it. It is a composition that has to work from the front row and from the back wall simultaneously, under whatever lighting the venue has, for the entire evening.

What a stage build includes
- Backdrop — two-panel, full-width or royal red, sized to the room
- Couple's seating — sofa, takhat, throne or traditional floor seating
- Floral installations, garlands and suspended work
- Drape, swag and vertical elements for height
- Floor lanterns, floating candles and LED string at the stage edge
- Steps, platform edging and side dressing where the venue provides a riser
- Uplighting to separate the stage from the room
Reading at distance
The rule we build to: if a detail cannot be seen from the back of the room, it is not doing work on a stage. Fine detail belongs on the signing table and the centrepieces, where people are close.
Stages need scale, contrast and depth. That means layered elements at different distances rather than everything flat against one plane — which is why a stage costs more than a backdrop and looks entirely different in photographs.
Colour under venue lighting
Most Ottawa banquet halls run warm, yellow-heavy lighting that flattens cool colours badly. Red and gold looks superb under it; sage and dusty blue can go muddy.
If your venue has coloured DJ lighting, that changes things again — pastels disappear entirely under a colour wash. Tell us what the lighting is and we will build a palette that survives it rather than one that only works in daylight.

It scales with the width of the build, the ceiling height and how much floral work is involved. A stage for a 100-guest hall and a full-width build under a 23-foot ceiling are very different jobs.

Yes — sofa, takhat, throne styling or traditional floor seating with bolsters, depending on the event and the tradition.
For mehndi and mayon, floor seating is usually correct. For barat and walima, raised seating reads better from the back of a large room.
Yes, and it needs to be built differently. The Infinity Convention Centre, for example, has 23-foot ceilings — a backdrop sized for a community hall looks lost there.
High rooms need vertical build: drape, suspended floral work and height, not just a wider frame. This is the most common fix we are asked for.
Only if we know about it. Coloured lighting washes out pastel palettes completely — blush, sage and ivory read grey under a colour wash.

A full stage build typically needs three to five hours depending on scale, which is why venue access time is the first thing we ask about.
If your venue only opens an hour before guests arrive, we will scale the build to fit rather than run late — and we would rather agree that with you a month out than on the day.
